We’re pleased to share highlights from the CHIC Symposium on Advancing Sustainable HPV Vaccination Programmes in Africa, held in October 2025 in Nairobi, in collaboration with the Kenya Ministry of Health.

About the Symposium
The Symposium convened more than 100 participants from 20 African countries, including national immunisation programme managers, ministries of health and education, Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) teams, policymakers, technical experts, researchers, civil society organisations, academic institutions, and global partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, PATH, and the Gates Foundation.
Key themes and discussions
Discussions focused on strengthening sustainable HPV vaccination programmes, with particular attention to:
- Closing coverage gaps among out-of-school and hard-to-reach girls
- Improving health information systems
- Addressing misinformation
- Mobilising domestic financing in the context of Gavi 6.0
- Embedding HPV vaccination within broader adolescent health, women’s health, and life-course immunisationstrategies

The Symposium was organised by the Coalition to Strengthen HPV Immunization Community (CHIC) — a global partnership led by the Centre for the Evaluation of Vaccination (University of Antwerp), Jhpiego, and the Vaccine Confidence Project at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
