Biography

Aurélie De Waele holds a PhD in Communication Sciences (2018, KU Leuven, Belgium) on the topic of crisis communication. She has worked as a guest professor at the Departments of Communication Studies at Ghent University, KU Leuven and University of Antwerp in Belgium.

Currently, she is working as assistant professor at the Department of Communication Studies and as Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Centre for Evaluation of Vaccination at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. She is also a member of the steering committee of the organisational communication division of the Netherlands-Flanders Communication Association.

Aurélie is involved in several European projects focusing on increasing vaccine confidence through communication (e.g., IMMUNION, VACCELERATE, PROTECT-EUROPE). Her research interests include communication about vaccination, healthcare provider-patient communication and crisis communication. She has a special interest in nonverbal aspects of these types of communication.

Her research has been published in journals such as Communication Research, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Health Communication, Journal of Nonverbal Behavior, Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management, and Public Relations Review.
