Vaccine confidence in Japan is very low* compared to other countries. The latest data we have for Japan is from surveys conducted in 2023, which showed that 51% of people feel that vaccines are safe and 62% think they are effective. 48% of those surveyed said they believe it’s important for children to have vaccines and 33% feel that vaccines are compatible with their religious beliefs.
Confidence in vaccines in Japan has decreased since the first surveys carried out there. In 2015, average vaccine confidence was average*. 56% of people felt that vaccines were safe and 74% thought they were effective. 82% said they believed it was important for children to have vaccines.
