The latest data we have for South Africa is from surveys conducted in 2024, which showed that 75% of people feel that vaccines are safe and 78% think they are effective. 77% of those surveyed said they believe it’s important for children to have vaccines and 65% feel that vaccines are compatible with their religious beliefs.
Confidence in vaccines in South Africa has decreased since the first surveys carried out there. In 2015, average vaccine confidence was high*. 85% of people felt that vaccines were safe and 86% thought they were effective. 90% said they believed it was important for children to have vaccines.
