Biography
Lucas Garay is an AI Research Associate specializing in machine learning applications for global health, ethical AI, and conversational systems. He is currently based between the Vaccine Confidence Project™ at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D24H) in Hong Kong.
At the Vaccine Confidence Project™, Lucas leads the development of advanced AI tools for public health engagement, including a RAG-LLM-powered multilingual chatbot to support HPV vaccine communication across Japan and China. His research focuses on tailoring cutting-edge natural language processing technologies for cross-cultural and domain-specific contexts, aiming to enhance public understanding of vaccines and foster equitable access to information.
In parallel, Lucas contributes to health tech innovation at D24H, where he develops personalized nutrition algorithms, biological age prediction models, and full-stack AI solutions for mental health support. His work integrates backend architecture, data pipelines, and front-end delivery of scalable digital health interventions.
Prior to these roles, Lucas held data science and computer vision positions at Tesla in Shanghai and the Nanjing Technology Research Institute, where he developed high-performing ML models and scalable analytics pipelines for medical and industrial applications.
Lucas holds an MSc in Big Data and Health Science from Zhejiang University and a BSc in Computer Science from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications in NEJM AI, IJCAI, and JBI, and has been recognized with awards for academic excellence and international research.
